On the evening of May 14, local time, OpenAI co-founder and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever announced on the social platform X that he will leave the company after nearly ten years.
Suzkovo wrote: After nearly ten years at OpenAI, I decided to leave.
The company\’s trajectory has been nothing short of miraculous. I believe OpenAI will build the legacy it needs under the leadership of sama (Sam Altman), gdb (Greg Brockman), MiraMurati, and now under the outstanding research leadership of meretm (Jakub Pachocki). AGI that is both safe and beneficial.
Suzkovo said: It is an honor to work together. I will miss everyone very much.
Goodbye. Thank you for everything.
I\’m excited about what\’s coming next – this is a project that\’s very personally meaningful to me. I\’ll share the details in due course.
Suzkovo also posted a photo of himself with the four colleagues mentioned in the post.
In the farce of the palace fight in which the OpenAI board of directors tried to oust Ultraman in November last year, there were rumors that Suzkovo was the instigator of the turmoil. But he later expressed that he deeply regretted his participation in the board of directors\’ actions.
Under Suzkovo’s post announcing his resignation, some netizens asked: But what exactly did you see? This refers to the legendary OpenAI mysterious project Q.
Some netizens joked: Join Tesla or xAI now.
Sutskwo is well-known in the field of artificial intelligence, dating back to his research on neural networks at the University of Toronto and continuing his work at Google\’s Google Brain lab.
When OpenAI was founded in 2015, Suzkovo served as research director. He was personally recruited into the company by Elon Musk.
After Suzkovo announced his resignation, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted on X: Ilya and OpenAI will part ways.
This makes me sad; Ilya is undoubtedly one of the brightest minds of our generation. A guiding light in our field. And a dear friend.
His talent and vision are well known; his passion and compassion are less well known. But no less important.
Without him, OpenAI would not be what it is today.
Even though he had some personally significant things to do, I am forever grateful for what he did here and committed to completing the mission we started together.
I\’m grateful to have been with such a truly brilliant talent for such a long time. And a man so focused on creating the best possible future for humanity.
Jakub (Pachocki) will be our new chief scientist.
Jakub is also one of the greatest thinkers of our generation; I\’m excited for him to take up the baton here.
He has managed many of our most important projects. I have every confidence that he will lead us to make rapid, safe progress toward our mission of ensuring AGI benefits everyone.
