After the fourth quarter of 2022, Tesla finally released the safety data report of its automatic assisted driving function Autopilot again after more than a year.
Tesla stated that with Autopilot turned on, an accident will occur on average every 7.63 million miles (approximately 12.2793 million kilometers).
For car owners who do not use Autopilot, an accident will occur on average every 955,000 miles driven.
By comparison, the most recent data (from 2022) provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) show that the average American car owner will be involved in one traffic accident every 670,000 miles driven.
Electric vehicle analyst Sawyer Merritt pointed out in a post on X that this is a new safety record. It is an increase of 16% from the previous historical best.
