Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he does not support the U.S. government’s recently announced decision to impose tariffs on electric vehicles made in China.
On Thursday, local time, during the question and answer session at the VivaTech Conference, Musk said in response to a question: Neither Tesla nor I requested the imposition of these tariffs.
In fact, I was surprised when they announced it.
Musk said: Tesla is competing very well in the Chinese market without the support of tariffs and preferential treatment.
I support no tariffs.
Musk added that he also disagrees with tax incentives for electric vehicles.
Musk said: I am in favor of no tariffs or incentives on electric vehicles or oil and natural gas.
Earlier this year, Musk said that without trade restrictions, Chinese electric car companies would crush competitors elsewhere.
\”Quite frankly, I think if trade barriers are not erected, they will almost destroy most other companies in the world,\” Musk said on Tesla\’s earnings call in January.
