Equity benchmarks BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 opened in red on Wednesday. While the Nifty was down by 0.26 per cent, or 57 points, at 22,245, the Sensex was at 73,307, down by 0.28 per cent, or 204 points.

Indian shares inched higher on Tuesday, driven by gains in consumer goods stocks and supported by renewed confidence that major global central banks will start lowering interest rates this year.

Equity benchmark indices climbed in early trade on Friday, extending their rally for the sixth day running, on heavy buying in Tech Mahindra and firm trends in Asian markets.

Rising for the fifth straight session, equity benchmark Sensex rallied nearly 500 points to reclaim the 74,000 mark while the Nifty closed above the 22,550 level on Thursday, driven by heavy buying in banking, financial and metal stocks.

BSE Sensex was trading at 73,400.23, higher by 456.55 pts, or 0.63 per cent, as of 12.43 p.m., and NSE Nifty50 was at 22,313.70, up 165.80 pts or 0.75 per cent.
