This week. Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk spoke at the World Water Forum in Bali on Monday and shared some insights into solving the water crisis.
He previously visited Indonesia and announced the launch of Starlink satellite Internet service there.
First, Musk pointed out that 70% of the world is water, and added that great breakthroughs have been made in the cost and efficiency of desalination.
Musk said in his speech that desalination and transportation are the two most important factors to help solve the water crisis. He attributed the problem to energy and transportation.
He also said he believes the cost of desalination will continue to drop significantly, just as the cost of solar energy has dropped over the past few years.
Musk also answered several questions, all about how to solve the water crisis and conduct research and development in the field of seawater desalination.
Ahead of Musk\’s appearance at the World Water Forum, his company SpaceX launched its Starlink service in Indonesia for the first time on Sunday.
When asked at a press conference announcing the launch of Starlink services if he planned to produce electric vehicles in Indonesia, Musk replied that he was here to focus on the debut of Starlink.
Nonetheless, Indonesian President Joko Widodo has met with Musk many times over the past few years and has sought to let Tesla build an electric car factory in Indonesia and purchase nickel there.
After the launch of Starlink services on Sunday, Indonesian Investment Coordinating Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said that Musk is still considering the idea of building a cathode factory in Indonesia.
